$130 million

Sector: Education

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Key Players: Stantec Architecture and KPMB Architect in a joint venture (lead design consultants) consultants); ADI Intl. (contractor); ADI Ltd.(architect); Cannon Design (design-build)

Owner: George Brown College; Waterfront Toronto

Financing: Public/Private – the Provincial Government has agreed to provide a portion of the funding required and George Brown College has committed another portion, with balance of construction costs to be supported by a fundraising campaign. George Brown is also open to an alternative financing procurement approach. One building has secured funded while the other has not. This was listed as a $90-million project on last year’s list.

Status: Scheduled for completion in 2012.

Project Details: The new campus will be home to George Brown’s Centre for Health Sciences. The Centre’s expansion is aligned with HealthForce Ontario’s Blueprint for Action on Interprofessional Care. The College will be able to train more health science workers to respond to critical skills shortages, and accommodate an additional 1,300 new students in the Centre for Health Sciences by 2015. The waterfront campus will be located on a 0.83-hectare parcel of land located on the south side of Queens Quay Boulevard between Lower Jarvis and Lower Sherbourne Streets. Toronto is committed to bringing in district energy, and the project is aiming for LEED-Gold.
