Location: Hecate Strait, between Haida Gwaii (the Queen Charlotte Islands) and Prince Rupert on the British Columbia mainland

Key Players: NaiKun Wind Energy Group Inc. (project developer); ENMAX Corporation (project partner); MT Højgaard (marine contractor); Siemens (turbines)

Financing: Public/Private – Financed with 20 per cent debt equity, 50 per cent equity from ENMAX, 10 per cent from Naikun and 40 per cent to be determined. The Haida Nation will be seeking federal government support and, failing that, investment will be sought from a private financial investor.

Owner: NaiKun Wind and ENMAX Green Power Inc. each own 50 per cent of the project company.

Status: Scheduled for completion in 2014.

Project Details: The 396-megawatt offshore wind energy project will generate enough energy to provide electricity to 130,000 B.C. homes and help the Province reach its goal of becoming electricity self-sufficient by 2016. Using unique marine construction techniques and equipment developed in Europe, the project will involve the construction of 110 wind turbine generators with a plant capacity of ?396 MW.
