Two key paving projects will improve driving on Deerfoot Trail in Calgary. Motorists can expect nighttime lane closures and speed reductions to accommodate the paving work.
On Aug. 3, Lafarge Canada Inc. will begin paving 23 kms of Deerfoot Trail between 17 Ave. SE and the Ivor Strong Bridge near Anderson Road. The contractor will first pave the southbound lanes beginning at 17 Ave. SE and then move to the northbound lanes upon reaching the Ivor Strong Bridge. The work will be done between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily to minimize traffic disruptions. At least one lane will be open to traffic at all times and the speed limit will be reduced to 80 km/h through the construction zone. Interchange ramps and loops may also be closed in and around the construction zone on a nightly basis.
Motorists will be able to use all three lanes of the Ogden Road flyover bridge on southbound Deerfoot Trail, approximately one month ahead of schedule.
By 6 a.m. on July 28, traffic will return to three full lanes over the southbound bridge with the speed limit returning to 100 km/h.

Construction is underway on the new Drayton Valley Bridge crossing the North Saskatchewan River on Highway 22.  The new bridge will feature a wider deck and improved approaches that will enhance safety for motorists and access for industrial traffic and wide-loads.
“Investing in our provincial highway network supports thousands of jobs today, lays the foundation for future economic growth, and supports our communities,” said Luke Ouellette, Minister of Transportation. “The new Drayton Valley Bridge and road improvements will increase safety and traffic flow for motorists.”

The speed limit within the construction zone will be reduced to 40 km/h. Construction work will begin July 16 and is expected to completed by Aug. 18, weather permitting.
Motorists are asked to use caution in the area and obey all signs and flag people. Motorists are reminded that fines for speeding are doubled through construction zones when workers are present.
Motorists can expect major delays, lane closures, and speed reductions on Deerfoot Trail in Calgary.
The closures and speed reductions affect southbound Deerfoot Trail at the Ogden Road flyover bridge and accommodate concrete pouring as part of the bridge’s deck replacement project. Traffic will be reduced to one 3.5-metre wide lane between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. on both July 19 and July 20, weather permitting. The speed limit is reduced to 50 km/h through the construction zone.
Motorists are further reminded that once the nighttime work above is completed, there will still be lane and speed reductions in this area until Sept. 30, weather permitting. Deerfoot Trail is reduced to two narrow lanes (3.0 m and 3.5 m widths, respectively) and the speed limit is reduced to 80 km/h through the construction zone.
