Description:

Manitoba Hydro is replacing and upgrading various components of its Pointe du Bois Generating Station, a 77 MW hydroelectric dam. Components of the project include replacing the primary spillway downstream of the existing rockfill dam on the east side of the Winnipeg River. In addition, the secondary spillway, transition structures, wing walls and earthfill dams will be replaced. The project also includes the decommissioning of the existing spillway structure. Replacing the spillway will improve dam safety for the public and workers.

Description:

The 2,400-millimetre (mm) diameter Hanlan Feedermain will run approximately 14.5 km from the Lakeview Water Treatment Plant on Lake Ontario to the Hanlan Reservoir and Pumping Station at Tomken Road and Britannia Road East. Part of the same project, the 1,500-mm diameter Mississauga City Centre Subtransmission Main will run approximately six kilometres from the Hanlan Reservoir and Pumping Station to the intersection of Cawthra Road and Burnhamthorpe Road. The Hanlan Water Project is needed to meet the water demands of future planned and approved regional growth, including the Mississauga City Centre Core. It will also provide operational flexibility in the event that the existing Hanlan Feedermain needs to be temporarily shut off for inspection or repair.

Wilson Facility Enhancement and Yard Expansion

The existing Wilson Yard facilities are designed for storage and maintenance of two/four car consist subway trains. The new fixed six-car Toronto Rocket (TR) subway trains require modification and expansion to the Wilson Yard facilities to ensure proper storage and maintenance of TR subway trains. Work at Wilson Yard includes expansion of Wilson Carhouse to the north and south to fully convert the carhouse for the maintenance of fixed six car TR subway trains; construction of an overhaul shop for heavy maintenance of TR subway train trucks and air conditioning units; additional tracks and connections to facilitate efficient train storage and movement in the yard; and a new access roadway into the expanded Wilson Yard.

Northwest Transmission Line Project

Blackspring Ridge 1 Wind Project

Description:

This 300 MW, 166 turbine, wind energy project is expected to be the largest wind farm in Canada. It’s construction ready, with completion expected in 2013. Greengate Power received approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission in March 2011. A companion project, the 300 MW Blackspring Ridge II Wind Project, is in an earlier stage of development. Greengate Power also has a contract with Pacific Gas & Electric in California to supply it with renewable energy credits. Each MW of energy produced is the equivalent of a renewable energy credit and allows Pacific Gas & Electric to fulfill its regulatory obligation to purchase 20 per cent of its power from renewable energy sources.

Description:

Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC) is responsible for the collection of electronic intelligence to support the defence and foreign policy of the Canadian government, as well as the protection of electronic information and communication. Since September 2001, the number of CSEC personnel has dramatically expanded. This has prompted the need for a new secure facility for the organization. The new facility, which is targeting LEED Gold certification, will include both general office space and special purpose space. Currently under construction, completion is scheduled for 2014.
