The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Member of Parliament for Roberval¿Lac-Saint-Jean, today announced that the Government of Canada will contribute to the economic vitality of Canada and Quebec by investing in a major project to optimize infrastructure at the Port of Montreal.
As of April 2010, nine First Nations and eight municipalities in Yukon have had 79 Gas Tax Fund (GTF) projects approved since the launch of the program. The projects will result in at least one of the following Gas Tax Fund goals: cleaner air, cleaner water or reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Member of Parliament for Beauce, and Laurent Lessard, the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy and Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalache region, are pleased to announce that the Parish of Sainte-Hénédine will receive $278,787 under the federal-provincial agreement on the transfer of a portion of federal gasoline tax revenues and the Government of Quebec's contribution. This is the first payment to the Parish of Sainte-Hénédine, which will receive a total of $348,787 to undertake major infrastructure work.
Residents of the City of Peterborough have an increased opportunity to get active and enjoy the outdoors thanks to a $1,290,000 investment from the federal Gas Tax Fund. The funding was used to construct of a critical section of the Otonabee River Trail that will link Millennium Park to Del Crary Park along Peterborough's waterfront. The waterfront will be made accessible and attractive for public use and enjoyment.
The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Nunavut, along with the Honourable Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), and Yellowknife Mayor Gordon Van Tighem, President of the Northwest Territories Association of Communities (NWTAC), are pleased to announce that all 33 communities across the Northwest Territories (NWT) have completed their Integrated Community Sustainability Plans (ICSP) as part of the Canada-Northwest Territories Gas Tax Fund Agreement.
Jeff Watson, Member of Parliament for Essex, Bruce Crozier, Member of Provincial Parliament for Essex, and Sue Klotzer, Program Director, Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association (WETRA), today celebrated the groundbreaking for a new riding facility in Windsor. Total eligible project costs are estimated at $2,368,995. The governments of Canada and Ontario have each committed $724,640 toward this project. WETRA will contribute the balance of funding.

Under the federal-provincial agreement for the program for the renewal of drinking water and wastewater pipes (PRECO), the two governments are providing a joint investment of $474,720,030 for a total of 365 projects in 245 Quebec municipalities. With the contribution of municipalities, a total of $712,080,045 will be used to carry out major infrastructure work. With today's announcement, the governments of Canada and Quebec have committed all of the funds earmarked for the province of Quebec under the PRECO program.
