Description:
Capital Power purchased the Halkirk project from Greengate Power for $290,000 per MW. In addition to selling the generated energy to the Alberta electricity grid, Capital Power has an agreement with California’s Pacific Gas & Electric. Under the 20-year agreement, Capital Power will sell the Renewable Energy Credits created by the project to PG&E to offset the utility’s requirement to purchase 20 percent of its power from renewable sources. All regulatory approvals and permits are in place. Construction is imminent and should be completed near the end of 2012.

Description:
This major highway project in the rapidly growing Fort McMurray area includes construction of a new Franklin Avenue Tunnel to direct the Grant MacEwan traffic. Due to compressible clays and layers of tar sands in the subsurface, the design will involve building large extensive retaining structures to mitigate slope failures to enable the realignment of Highway 63 into the valley slope. Construction is underway, with completion estimated for 2015.

Description:
Currently, SickKids research teams are scattered across six different locations in downtown Toronto. This project brings them together in what will be the largest high-rise research facility in Canada. Construction is progressing, with the Tower crane being raised to a height of 43 metres above street level in the summer of 2011. Completion of the facility, which is expected to achieve LEED Gold certification, is estimated to be 2013.

Description:
To date, the south tar pond has been remediated. The north pond, from Ferry Street to the north pond narrows, is scheduled to be treated by fall 2012 and the last section in 2013.The project has been on the list since. Under construction, completion is expected in 2014.
SAIT Polytechnic Trades and Technology Complex

Description:
Over the past five years, SAIT has had to turn away an average of 4,000 qualified applicants each autumn due to capacity issues. Once complete, the new complex is expected to allow for 8,100 more apprenticeship and full-time students each year for hands-on, career-oriented training. The Province of Alberta is contributing $300 million to the project; SAIT is hoping to raise the remainder through philanthropic partnerships.
