Government of Canada invests in airport safety at the Region of Waterloo International Airport – Transport Canada

WATERLOO, ON— The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, announced today that the Government of Canada is investing more than $3.2 million in improvements to the Region of Waterloo International Airport. Under the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP), the money will be used to partially rehabilitate the pavement on Runway 08-26.

New intelligent transportation system in place to measure wait times at Canadian border crossings – Transport Canada

OTTAWA — Today, the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and Minister Blair Lekstrom, British Columbia’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, announced the expansion of the Advanced Traveller Information System (ATIS) to two new British Columbia border crossings. The system measures and reports wait times to allow travellers to make informed route choices. Transport Canada and the Province of British Columbia each funded 50% of the $2.6 million total cost.

Governments launch the Toronto Rocket into service – Transport Canada

TORONTO — The Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Eglinton-Lawrence; the Honourable Kathleen Wynne, Ontario’s Minister of Transportation; His Worship Rob Ford, Mayor of Toronto; and Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Chair Karen Stintz today launched the new Toronto Rocket subway trains into service.

Faregates to improve SkyTrain security, reduce fare evasion – Transport Canada

VANCOUVER — Construction officially began today to install the first transit faregates at the Commercial-Broadway SkyTrain station. Once in full operation, the faregates will make taking transit safer and easier for people travelling on the entire transit system in Metro Vancouver.

Work starts on improvements to Highway 1, Clanwilliam Bridge – Transport Canada

REVELSTOKE, BRITISH COLUMBIA — Work is about to begin to replace the Clanwilliam Bridge over the Canadian Pacific Railway mainline west of Revelstoke. The new bridge and widening of the adjacent highway will improve the safety of the Trans-Canada Highway through the area.

Minister Fletcher announces investment in airport safety at Prince Albert Airport – Transport Canada

PRINCE ALBERT, SK — The Honourable Steven Fletcher, Minister of State (Transport), announced today that the Government of Canada is investing more than $5.9 million in improvements to the Prince Albert Airport. Transport Canada releases findings of the 2010 Pickering Lands Needs Assessment Study – Transport Canada

TORONTO — Transport Canada today released the findings of the 2010 Pickering Lands Needs Assessment Study. The study was conducted to broaden and update previous work on the role and capacity of airports in the Greater Golden Horseshoe area in meeting future needs for passenger, cargo and recreational traffic within a 25-year horizon.

Government of Canada and Saint John Transit launch new vehicle tracking technology – Transport Canada

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament for Saint John; Glen Tait, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Saint John East, on behalf of the Honourable Claude Williams, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure; and His Worship Ivan Court, mayor of Saint John, today launched a global positioning system (GPS) for buses in Saint John. The vehicle tracking technology, known as “NextBus,” has been added to Saint John Transit’s fleet. The NextBus system lets passengers know when the next bus will arrive at any given bus stop through the Web, mobile devices and signs at key locations. This will reduce wait times and the need for printed schedules for transit riders.
