The first 1.6 kilometres of twin tunnels for the Spadina Subway Project have been completed in Toronto. These tunnels will be connect the future Sheppard and Keele subway stops on the new $2.63 billion line. The first tunnel boring machine broke through the headwall on May 1st and the second breached the wall on June 4th.

The extraction shaft for the tunnel boring machines is located on Keele Street, south of Finch Ave. West. The boring machines have the capacity to tunnel 15 metres per day and will now be dismantled and moved to a new location to begin tunnelling between the Sheppard Ave station and the existing Downsview station.
