Gordie Howe International Bridge to include pedestrian access

The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) has announced that, as a result of public consultation and feedback and engagement with Canada Border Services Agency and US Customs and Border Protection, the Gordie Howe International Bridge will include a dedicated multi-use path that will accommodate pedestrians and cyclists.

WDBA has asked the three proponent teams to include this design element in their responses to the Request for Proposals. It will be up to the Proponents to provide design details to best incorporate this active transportation feature that is important to our communities.

“Hike or Bike the Bridge is an active transportation element we look forward to delivering to the communities of Windsor-Essex County and the Greater Detroit Area and all visitors who come to the landmark crossing for the unique opportunity this multi-use path will create,” said Michael Cautillo, WDBA President and CEO.

It is anticipated that the multi-use path will be located on the east side of the bridge. Barriers will separate pedestrians and cyclists from vehicular traffic to ensure the safety and security of the travelling public.
