According to Nalcor, the in-service date for this project is 2016. However, Hydro Quebec filed a motion with Quebec Superior Court on July 22, 2013, claiming it has exclusive rights to purchase the power and energy produced by Churchill Falls Generating Station until 2041 and that Hydro Quebec has the right to control the output of Churchill Falls to optimize its own needs.
In November 2013, after an environmental assessment, the federal government said the project can continue with the regulatory approval process.
