This 250 MW hydroelectric dam on the Saskatchewan River is being constructed by a partnership that includes the James Cree First Nations (made up of James Smith Cree Nation, Cumberland 100A First Nation/Peter Chapman Band, and Chakastaypasin Band of the Cree), Brookfield Renewable, and Kiewit. The group is currently negotiating an energy purchase agreement with publically owned SaskPower.
It is intended that the project will provide employment and economic development opportunities for the First Nations communities involved in it. Once completed, the project is estimated to generate enough electricity to power about 80,000 homes.
