Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Providence Care announced the new hospital project has reached substantial completion.
Providence Care Hospital will open with full operations and services to clients and patients in April 2017.
Located in Kingston, the new 622,000-square-foot Providence Care Hospital includes 270 private inpatient rooms, as well as modern therapy and clinic spaces for inpatients and outpatients. Providence Care Hospital is among the first hospitals in North America to fully integrate long-term mental health care with physical rehabilitation and complex care programs in the same facility. All patients, regardless of diagnosis, will have access to the hospital’s therapy pool, gymnasium and outdoor spaces.
Additionally, Providence Care Hospital incorporates the latest technology throughout the building, enhancing patient, client and family experience as well as workplace efficiency. The new hospital features brand new, state of the art security, communication and computer systems across the facility.
“Infrastructure Ontario is extremely proud of the work we have achieved, and we congratulate our partners at Integrated Team Solutions, Providence Care and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care on delivering this Alternative Financing and Procurement project safely, effectively, on time and on budget,” said Ehren Cory, divisional president of project delivery for Infrastructure Ontario.
Integrated Team Solutions-comprised of EllisDon Corporation, Fengate Capital Management Limited, Parkin Architects, Johnson Controls Canada LP and Scotia Capital-signed a contract in December 2013 to design, build, finance and maintain the new Providence Care Hospital. Construction started in May 2014.
The new hospital will replace Providence Care’s current St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital and Mental Health Services buildings.
The project was designed and built to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver certification.
