Developed by Wuskwatim Power Limited Partnership, the new hydroelectric facility officially commenced operations on July 5, 2012. The Wuskwatim Dam, ranked 13 in the 2011 Top 100 Projects, cost $1.37 billion to construct and it will deliver 200 megawatts of electricity onto Manitoba Hydro’s grid.
This dam was developed through a unique partnership between Manitoba Hydro and the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (NCN). The partnership gives NCN a 33 per cent stake in the project, as well as economic and employment benefits. According to Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger “Wuskwatim marks a new chapter in northern hydroelectric development for Manitoba.”
