The Valley Line West LRT project is the next phase of Edmonton’s light rail transit expansion. This project represents a 14-kilometre extension from downtown Edmonton to Lewis Farms in west Edmonton. The low-floor, community-integrated, urban-style LRT will help move more people along key corridors as Edmonton grows into a city of two million over the coming decades. In 2023, Marigold Infrastructure Partners entered its second year of major construction. Work this year has included: utility relocations and road works, installation of girders for the new Stony Plain Road Bridge, work on the elevated guideway and two elevated stations at West Edmonton Mall and the Misericordia Community Hospital, site preparations at street-level stops, piling work for the bridge at Anthony Henday Drive, and further work on the storage facility at Lewis Farms and the Gerry Wright operations and maintenance facility. In spring 2023, a major project milestone was achieved when Hyundai Rotem Company, the supplier of 46 light rail vehicles (LRVs) for Valley Line West, delivered a full-scale mock-up to Edmonton for user and accessibility testing.
