In December 2015, Newfoundland and Labrador\\\\\\\'s new minister of health and community services, John Haggie, said his role was clear: to replace the old Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook with a new facility.

This new hospital will continue to offer the high level of services currently available at Western Memorial Regional Hospital including emergency care, obstetrics, palliative care, rehabilitation, inpatient mental health services and diagnostic services, in addition to new services such as radiation treatment and a dedicated space for a PET scanner.

The provincial government, in its 2017 budget, announced a commitment of $13.2 million to the project to “allow for the engagement of professional service contracts, such as procurement, legal, and technical advisors, and engineering and architectural services for the Corner Brook Acute Care Hospital.”

Site preparation activities are underway, and this project has entered the design phase.
