Safety inspectors to attend La Romaine worksite

Union safety specialists will monitor the La Romaine worksite in the wake of four deaths on the job site since the project began.

According to an article from CBC News, this is the first time Hydro-Québec has allowed permissions for the specialists to monitor the job site, which is in year eight of the eleven-year development.

On average, 975 workers are present on the jobsite at any given time, with up to 2,000 during peak periods. The job site is located near Havre-Saintt-Pierre, on Quebec’s north shore of the Saint Lawrence River.

The $6.5-billion complex, #6 on the ReNew Canada 2017 Top100 Projects list, includes the construction of a rockfill dam, spillway, and two generating units for each of the four new stations. The project is scheduled for substantial completion in 2020.
