Phase 1 of the Capital Line South LRT project is a 4.5 km extension from Century Park Station to just north of Ellerslie Road. Phase 1 includes: an underpass at 23 Avenue and 111 Street; bridges crossing Blackmud Creek and Anthony Henday Drive; an operations and maintenance facility; two LRT stations (Twin Brooks station and Heritage Valley North station); and light rail vehicles.

In 2022, EllisDon, the early works construction manager, began work to prepare the alignment for major construction to start in 2024. Early works construction includes: utility relocations, construction of a lift station at 23 Avenue and 111 Street, median removals at key intersections, and necessary tree removals.

In March 2023, a key milestone was achieved as the project team issued the RFP to the two qualified shortlisted bidders. The selection of the Design-Build contractor is anticipated in early 2024.
