The Darlington Nuclear Refurbishment Project was managed in three distinct phases: Initiation Phase (2007 – 2009); Definition Phase (2010-2015); and Execution Phase (2016-2026). During the execution phase of the project, workers will remove, inspect, and install main reactor components using tools and methods that were developed and tested during the Project’s definition phase, carried out by CanAtom. OPG removes each of the four Darlington CANDU reactors from service sequentially for approximately three years each to allow for the replacement of feeder tubes, end fittings, pressure tubes and calandria tubes. The overall refurbishment project is 20 years in duration, with the execution phase scheduled for 112 months.
