The Royal Columbian Hospital redevelopment is a three-phase, multi-year project that will increase the hospital’s capacity by approximately 50 per cent, introduce advanced medical technologies and improve the health care environment for staff and patients. Phase 1’s Mental Health and Substance Use Wellness Centre opened in August 2020. Phase 2, now under construction, will create the new Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower with more beds, a larger Emergency Department and more operating rooms. Phase 2 is expected to be complete in 2025. Phase 3 will upgrade and expand areas in existing buildings to support the beds and services in the new acute care tower. Phase 3 construction is expected to begin in 2024.
